Draft 4.4: Phil’s notes

Phil watched draft 4.3 and gave 13 notes, then six more on the first preview of this one; Stevan ruled on each, and added his own. The films and the portal are now set in Saira Semi Condensed. Four films, each under 16 MB and built for phones: the short cut for partner managers, the social cut for partners, and the two full films. They were recorded on the demo network, and all of the data is made up.

What changed, point by point

Phil’s 19 points: 17 done, 2 kept as is. Each time plays the moment in this draft.

The manager film

  1. M1

The opening transition: the black moves left, then right again

The title card’s black folds straight from the full screen to the side panel’s width, in one move, while the spreadsheet flows into the table. The portal’s sidebar never shows.

    Done
  2. M2

The paid-months wall: fewer months, “Next payout” and “Paid to date”

Two rows of months, from August 2025, each with the portal’s Paid chip, and “Paid to date” stepping up as each lands. The first preview had “Next payout” too; Phil’s second notes took it out (R1).

    Done
  3. M3

The PAID stamp: use the portal’s own status style

The months carry the portal’s own Paid chip, set larger than in the portal so it reads on a phone.

    Done
  4. M4

The pause before the next payout is too long

The next payout follows the last paid month in under a second, down from 3.6 s. In the partner film, “Earned on every trade they make.” arrives in that gap, as before.

    Done
  5. M5

    The chart’s date axis

The chart starts at August 2025, as the wall does. The axis is in quarters, with 2025 and 2026 marked where they begin.

The short manager film

  1. S1

The partners table: near-identical figures, “partners”, “lifetime”

Stevan’s call: no change. The pairs stay a penny or two apart, “partners” stays, and so does “lifetime”: without it the figure could read as this month’s or this year’s.

    Kept as is
  2. S2

Rename “Kingsley & Rowe Chartered Accountants”

“Kingsley & Rowe”, in the portal’s demo data, so every row of the partners table sits on one line, in both manager films.

    Done
  3. S3

The notifications beat: a mixed list, and the box too tight

The tray lists four clients at their stages, newest first, with no payout among them, and the highlight sits clear of the icons and dates. The full manager film has the same tray.

    Done
  4. S4

“Same figures, both sides”: too quick, and the figures switch confusingly

“Same figures, both sides.” holds about a second longer before the move to Brightwater’s page. Before your next payout comes your breakdown with the “You keep” row lit, so 3,432.56 GBP leads back to it. That beat costs three seconds: Stevan chose it over the 45-second cap, so the short runs 46.

The partner film

  1. P1

Show the link and QR options before the ready-made messages

The film opens on the Share page: after the title, its black folds into the side panel beside the three ways in, “Link, QR code, or just your name.”, and then come the ready-made messages. The social cut takes the same order and runs 34 seconds, as before. The WhatsApp share button is a suggestion for the portal team.

    Done
  2. P2

“Track every step.” on its own line

“Track every step.”, then “We handle onboarding.” on a line of its own, in the partner film and the social cut, whose narrower panel sets each sentence on two rows. Draft 4.3 said “Watch every step.”

    Done
  3. P3

Northwind: keep the panel up, and update its line

The Track panel stays up as the camera moves from Northwind’s name to its earnings. Its line becomes “£5,997.87 earned.”, and the “Yours” tab stays on the figure.

    Done
  4. P4

The statement page shows for about a second

The statement page that flashed up is gone. The settlement close-up fades straight into the ending, which lands the months as the manager film does, the accruing month counting up at its end.

    Done

Phil's second notes, 13 October (on the 4.4 manager preview)

  1. R1

    “Next payout” goes

“Paid to date” is the ending’s one figure. The next payout still shows on the scheduled month’s own square: 3,432.56 GBP, 28 October.

    Done
  2. R2

No dashed build on every month

Each month lands already paid, with its chip, slowly at first, quickly through the middle, then slower again. The dashed outline is the accruing month’s alone.

    Done
  3. R3

More room between the figures and the months

The months sit lower, well clear of the figure and the line above them.

    Done
  4. R4

More time on the last two: the scheduled month fixed, the accruing month counting up

The scheduled month lands at its fixed 3,432.56 GBP; then October counts up from nothing to 1,606.90 GBP in its dashed square. About five and a half seconds on the two, before the chart.

    Done
  5. R5

    The quarters work

Kept: the quarters, with 2025 and 2026 marked where they begin.

    Kept as is
  6. R6

The “///” kickers in the brand orange

Every “///” kicker is the brand orange, as the portal’s own page kickers are: the side panel’s and the title cards’, in all four films.

    Done

Since the first previews

Stevan’s notes on the first 4.4 previews, all done:

  • No page between “And here’s yours.” and the manager film’s ending: the close-up fades straight into the months.
  • The months land eased in and out, in both full films: slowly at first, one at a time, then quickly through the middle, then slower again to the latest.
  • Fewer counting figures: Stevan picked one counter from a side-by-side, and Phil’s second notes then took “Next payout” out altogether. “Paid to date” steps up as each month lands, and only the accruing month counts.

Music

Stevan’s picks from round 1, re-cut to the new pictures: the video-to-music take under both manager films, Rising under both partner films.

Recorded on

The development copy of the portal: the demo-video branch with #5722 (wording), #5723 (12 months) and #5724 (statement dates), set in Saira Semi Condensed (a local change, not yet in a pull request). The demo data was re-seeded on 3 October; on 12 October Kingsley & Rowe was renamed and the tray’s newest clients refreshed. Every figure on screen, the crafted sequences included, was read from the live pages at recording time.

Known flaws

  • The manager film’s pairs are a penny or two apart (S1, kept as is).
  • Too small to read on a phone: the live table for about a second after the spreadsheet morph (the drill beat is where its headers read); the months and amounts on the wall’s tiles, which read as a run of Paid chips under the two totals; and the portal’s own text in Northwind’s lit row, about 7 px tall, where the side panel repeats the name and the figure in large type.
  • The Northwind earnings shot leaves empty page to the right of the figures: the camera stays close on the figure, so it reads on a phone, with the panel beside it.
  • The social cut’s “Illustrative figures” tag is small on a phone, as in draft 4.3.
  • One frame repeats in the short at 0:31.
